This comprehensive course provides an in-depth understanding of OSHA policies, procedures, and general industry safety and health principles. Key topics include walking and working surfaces (including fall protection), recordkeeping, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and hazard communication. A copy of the 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards manual is included with the registration fee.

Course Description
This course offers a thorough examination of workplace safety regulations to help ensure compliance and improve safety management within general industry environments.
For those interested in becoming authorized to teach OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour General Industry classes, the OSHA #511 course fulfills one of the two prerequisites for the OSHA #501 Trainer Course for General Industry. A written exam is administered at the conclusion of the course.

Participants will explore workplace safety and health standards and learn how to apply these concepts to improve organizational performance:
- OSHA Policies & Procedures: Explore core OSHA policies, administrative procedures, and enforcement standards.
- General Industry Standards: Examine the 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards in detail using the provided manual.
- Safety Principles: Learn foundational general industry safety and health principles to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Trainer Prerequisites: Satisfy one of the two mandatory prerequisites required for individuals seeking to attend the OSHA #501 Trainer Course for General Industry.
- Comprehensive Examination: Demonstrate mastery of the course material by successfully passing a written exam administered at the conclusion of the training.
About the Instructor
Bryan Lane is a safety consultant with the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (UT CIS). As an OSHA-authorized outreach trainer, he develops and delivers safety training, conducts safety audits, and builds OSHA-compliant safety programs for Tennessee companies.
Lane brings 30 years of industry and consulting experience spanning safety, quality assurance, inventory control, lean manufacturing, and sales. His areas of expertise include OSHA 10-Hour and 30-Hour General Industry, OSHA 10-Hour Construction, safety program development, general industry standards, ISO 45001 training and consulting, and accident investigation. He holds a master’s degree in professional studies in training and development and is a British Standards Institute-certified lead auditor for ISO 45001.
