Dr. Lisa Veitch spent over 30 years providing independent technical assessments on Department of Defense (DOD) programs for the Institute for Defense Analyses, evaluating major systems such as the Comanche helicopter, F-35, F-22, and B-21 bomber. During this colloquium, she will examine several of these key DOD programs from her career—bringing actual failed test components for display—while highlighting rapid technology development for warfighters and providing personal insights from her 40-year engineering career.

About the Speaker
Dr. Lisa Veitch received her BS degree in Ceramic Science and Engineering from Penn State University. She accepted a position at GM’s Delco Electronics in Kokomo, IN as a process development and production engineer. While working at Delco, she pursued her Master’s Degree part time in materials engineering at Purdue University. She later left Delco to go to receive her PhD full time at Purdue.
Upon graduation from Purdue, she accepted a position at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH. There she developed high temperature materials and coatings for gas turbine engines for about 10 years. She accepted a position with the Institute for Defense Analyses as a weapon systems analyst. She provided independent technical analyses on a variety of new technologies and weapon systems the Defense department was supporting. Some of the systems she assessed were Comanche helicopter, F35, F22, and B21 in addition to a number of modernization programs.
She retired in June 2024 after 30 years with IDA. Over her career, she received awards from Penn State, Purdue, the National Defense Industrial Association, NASA and IDA. She also has a patent for one of her coatings.
