Every operation has problems that keep coming back, such as the same defect, the same delay, or the same conversation. Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt training gives you a method for finding out why, providing the tools to prove it with data instead of opinion. This training is ideal for supervisors, team leaders, engineers, and quality staff who are asked to solve recurring problems, as well as anyone serving on an improvement team or supporting a Green Belt project. It also benefits continuous improvement coordinators who need one shared method across a site, and organizations sending multiple attendees since these tools work best when a team shares a common language.

Course Description
This training teaches participants how Lean and Six Sigma work together alongside the DMAIC method. You will map a real process, learn to see the eight wastes using the DOWNTIME framework, rank the causes that matter most using a cause-and-effect matrix, and run a root cause analysis from symptom to source. The course also covers building data collection plans to ensure decisions are backed by reliable data.

Participants will explore the fundamental components of industrial AI and learn how to apply these concepts to improve organizational performance. You will learn how to:
- Understand Lean Six Sigma Foundations: Explain how Lean and Six Sigma work together alongside the DMAIC method.
- Master Process Mapping: Learn to map real processes, build a SIPOC, and identify key inputs and outputs.
- Discover Waste and Flow: See the eight wastes using the DOWNTIME framework and understand how speed and work-in-process drive lead time.
- Integrate Problem-Solving Frameworks: Combine cause and effect matrices, reliable data collection plans, and root cause analysis tools such as the 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams.
About the Instructors
Dr. Lynn E. Reed is a dedicated engineering consultant for the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services, where he has provided technical assistance to industries across the state since 1996. With over 40 years of industry experience, he specializes in quality, environmental, and energy management systems, as well as risk mitigation. Dr. Reed has worked with over 60 companies to implement ISO standards and has trained hundreds of professionals in management strategies and industrial problem-solving. His professional focus is currently centered on the impact of formal training on defect reduction and cost mitigation for manufacturing.
Prior to his tenure at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Reed spent twenty-one years in engineering and production management within the chemical manufacturing sector, followed by a brief period teaching high school mathematics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as well as a Master of Science and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee Space Institute. A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, he also maintains professional certifications as a lead auditor for both quality and environmental management systems.
